Legislative Leadership Elections
The Kentucky General Assembly convened the 2009 Regular Session today. This first part of the session, that lasts from January 6-9, is known as the Organizational Session. During this period the House and Senate will elect their leadership, which controls: the session agenda; determine what bills reach the floor for a vote; and will name the chairs of the committees; and determine the membership of each committee.
Here is the newly elected slate of Legislative Leadership for each chamber:
House
Based on unofficial information at this time, we believe that the House Democrats have elcted three new members of House Leadership: Greg Stumbo as Speaker, John Will Stacy as Whip, and Bob Damron as Caucus Chair. Also Larry Clark and Rocky Adkins were re-elected to their leadership posts.
On the House Republican side David Floyd unseated Stan Lee.
